以下是一位美国朋友 Kurt Schutz 写的帖子。从中可以看出他对《XX河》的理解、构思、希望与情结。
Scene One opens on a non-stop flight from L.A. to Guilin,China. Doctor Robert Adams 43, Professor of Ancient Music, Yale University, is on board. Looking out the window to the beautiful landscape of Guilin below, he flashes back to an earlier time, when he was 19, and taking his first trip to China.
24 years earlier, as a student, he was going thru Guilin when he saw a group of women, playing strange instruments and singing beautiful songs. One of the women, a 24 year old local girl caught his eye with her beauty and her beautiful voice. He listened to the music intently for an hour but was unable to get much information about the group, other than the name of the girl and the name of the instrument. He did find out that the instrument was an ancient Zhuang instrument, and he was able to buy one from the same instrument maker that supplied the group.
Before he knew it he was on his way home, with the instrument, and thoughts of the beautiful women, their songs and the great time he had. The memories influenced his choice of careers and now he was going back to China for the first time in 24 years.
He had written several times to find out more information about the women and the music, but the information he got back was of little help. Finally last year while researching on the internet he found some information on a new Zhuang web site.
There was a picture of the same instrument that he had purchased as a student.
Now as he departs the plane he is met by a young woman who plays the instrument and has agreed to work with him with his song research.
He is immediately struck by her beauty and her resemblance to the women in his memory.
She takes him to the same shop where he bought the instrument 24 years earlier. The shop had not changed. As he looked around he sees an old picture on the wall of a group of women playing instruments. In the group is the one he has found memories of. When he shows the picture to his new friend, she is shocked that he points to one of the women in the picture. It was her mother. She had been killed in an accident 20 years earlier when the girl was only 2. She was raised by her grandmother and learned the same ways as her mother. She says he must meet her grandmother, as she knows the most about the songs and the ancient ways.
The next day they meet the grandmother and the true story begins.
