我接触的某些壮学专家们说，其实老挝语比泰国语更加接近壮语南部方言，不过由于老挝这个国家过去比较封闭，现在外界对他们国内的资讯也不丰富，加上老挝是个穷国，所以相对于壮-泰语言文化比较来说，壮-老语言文化比较没有得到应有的重视。
