Syllabus of Management

<P><B>II. Course Description:


<P></B>
<P>
<P>Management is the study of the principal <B>functions and skills</B> of people who work in organization structures to gain surplus. It is a course guiding people to accomplish organizational goals both <B>effectively</B> <B>and</B> <B>efficiently</B>. It is a course for practical activities in the classroom and outdoor involvements, with an overview of social and institutional issues pertaining to the public and private sectors.

<P><B>III. Primary Course Objectives:

<P>1)  A good understanding of the key principles of Management;</P>
<P>2)  A full view of the role and functions of a manager or a leader;</P>
<P>3)  Basic skills to manage human resources;</P>
<P>4)  Capacity to percept managerial dilemmas and envision improvement.</P>
<P>The main purpose of this course, to be short, is to build up an operational framework capacity of a qualified manager or leader among the students.</P>
<P><B>IV. Format:

<P>A participatory learning seminar will be employed as much as possible. A combination of lectures, discussions, presentations, case analysis, and <B>guest speakers</B> provide several vehicles for presenting course concepts.</P>
<P><B>V. Structure:

<P>The course will be divided into roughly 2 major parts. The first part will concentrate mainly on management theories and knowledge. This part will be delivered by PowerPoint with classroom discussions and interventions. The second part is devoted to managerial skills applications in reality. This practical part consists of a team project that will be implemented by a team of 4 that are determined to change the poor situations in a typical environment.</P>

<P>The performances of the students will be evaluated from the following points:</P>
<P>1) Attendance of class and group activities;</P>

<P>3) Creative thinking and new ideas;</P>
<P>4) Pragmatic attitude and behavior;</P>
<P>5) Challenging difficulties and innovative schemes;</P>
<P>6) Informed-decision making;</P>
<P>7) Active leadership with constructive visions; and</P>
<P>8) Neat and fine papers with solid grounds.</P>

<P><FONT face="Times New Roman">Above is the syllabus of Management which I use resently to guide my instruction of the course to 50  students who are going abroad for Master's  degrees in Public Administration and Business Management. I hope it is informative and constructive for the improvement of the Zhuang Web and the development of the Zhuang community as well.</FONT></P>
