或许，每一个人都需要临终关怀，请看医学文章：Terminal illness绝症译者前言：有一种翻译，叫“肓译”，其情形是：语言研究者并不具备专业文章的知识背景，翻译时只根据每一个句子的语法结构加以分析、同时借助专业的词典查出每个术语的意义，最后根据上下文意译出译文。医学文章《绝症》为大卫语言工作室“肓译”的第一次尝试。 Terminal illness is a <a title="Medical terminology" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_terminology">medical term</a> popularized in the 20th century to describe a <a title="Disease" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disease">disease</a> that cannot be cured or adequately treated and that is reasonably expected to result in the <a title="Death" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death">death</a> of the patient within a relatively short period of time. This term is more commonly used for progressive diseases such as <a title="Cancer" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cancer">cancer</a> or advanced <a title="Heart disease" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_disease">heart disease</a> than for <a title="Physical trauma" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_trauma">trauma</a>. Often, a patient is considered to be terminally ill when the life expectancy is estimated to be six months or less, under the assumption that the disease will run its normal course. The six-month standard is arbitrary,<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminal_illness#cite_note-titleTerminal_Illness-0#cite_note-titleTerminal_Illness-0"></a> and best available estimates of longevity may be incorrect. Consequently, though a given patient may properly be considered terminal, this is not a guarantee that the patient will die within six months. Similarly, a patient with a slowly progressing disease, such as <a title="AIDS" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIDS">AIDS</a>, may not be considered terminally ill because the best estimates of longevity were greater than six months. However this does not guarantee that the patient will not die unexpectedly early. The individual may require assistance from a caregiver to receive medications for pain and to control symptoms of <a title="Nausea" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nausea">nausea</a> or <a title="Vomiting" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vomiting">vomiting</a>. Moreover, the caregiver can assist the individual with daily living activities and assist with ambulation. Terminal illness is a <a title="Medical terminology" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_terminology">medical term</a> popularized in the 20th century to describe a <a title="Disease" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disease">disease</a> that cannot be cured or adequately treated and that is reasonably expected to result in the <a title="Death" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death">death</a> of the patient within a relatively short period of time. This term is more commonly used for progressive diseases such as <a title="Cancer" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cancer">cancer</a> or advanced <a title="Heart disease" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_disease">heart disease</a> than for <a title="Physical trauma" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_trauma">trauma</a>. In popular use, it indicates a disease which will eventually end the life of the sufferer. 老翁译文绝症是20世纪流行的医学术语，指无法治逾或不能有效治疗，短期内导致患者死亡的疾病，通常多指癌症或晚期心脏病等重症，不含外伤。通俗地说，绝症就是必将结束患者生命的病症。
翻译的基本要求：1、意思准确，不得有误；2、语言简洁明了，不拖泥带水；3、符合汉语表述习惯，没有“洋腔”“臊味”。4、汉语译文通常要比英语原文简短一半左右，否则译文可能水分太多。这些都是个人观点，仅供达武君和其他贝侬参考。
